Moeve, Exolum, and the Port Authority of Huelva today unveiled the new loading and unloading infrastructure currently under construction at the Port of Huelva. This infrastructure will enhance operational capabilities and serve the new 2G biofuel plant being developed by Moeve and its partner at the La Rábida Energy Park in Palos de la Frontera. The projects, called "Muelle Sur" and "Poliducto", represent an investment of 299 million euros. They mark a significant step forward in the company's commitment to operational efficiency, as well as its transformation process to lead sustainable energies powered by green molecules.

As part of the Muelle Sur project, Moeve and Exolum have started building a new terminal for energy products in the Outer Port of Huelva. The project includes the development of a new 511-meter-long berthing dock that will modernize the logistics infrastructure at the La Rábida Energy Park and optimize ship loading and unloading operations.

The Muelle Sur project will facilitate combined loading and unloading operations for both raw materials and products, connecting the Moeve and Exolum facilities through new transportation lines. These lines will extend from the pier to the La Rábida Energy Park and the Exolum storage facility in Huelva. The South Pier will be a key facility in Moeve's decarbonization strategy, serving as the primary entry point for raw materials and exit point for products from the second-generation biofuels production complex that the company is building in Palos de la Frontera.

The Poliducto project is replacing the entire pipeline system connecting the industrial facilities of the Energy Park and EXOLUM to the Torre Arenillas dock, upgrading it with new lines of higher capacity. It will also improve the dock facilities and significantly increase operational safety. This new system, approximately 5 km in length, will provide greater operational flexibility and versatility within the existing facilities, reinforcing Moeve's commitment to efficiency and innovation. The new facilities will also significantly improve operational safety by replacing older systems and upgrading dock infrastructure, allowing for easier and safer ship loading and unloading operations.

These investments reaffirm Moeve, Exolum, and the Port Authority of Huelva’s commitment to driving economic development and improving infrastructure in Huelva. Moeve's business strategy remains focused on sustainability and innovation, with corporate and government partnerships as one of its core pillars.

The Mayor of Palos de la Frontera, Milagros Romero, and the President of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, met with the media along with representatives of the companies and the Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining of the Junta de Andalucía, Cristóbal Sánchez. The presentation was also attended by David Toscano, President of the Diputación de Huelva, Lucía Núñez, Territorial Delegate for Economy and Industry, José Correa, Delegate of the Junta de Andalucía, as well as the Presidents of AIQBE and the Chamber of Commerce, and representatives of the Municipality of Huelva.

“The modernization of our existing facilities is a crucial step in advancing our strategic projects already underway. The talent of the La Rábida Energy Park team is key to the success of this transformation.” Antonio Joyanes - Director of Energy Parks at Moeve

José Manuel Martínez, Director of Technology, Projects, and Services at Moeve, emphasized the importance of these projects to the company's strategy. “The new infrastructure at the Port of Huelva is a crucial step in our mission to improve operational efficiency and advance our decarbonization strategy. These investments will not only improve our loading and unloading capabilities, but will also strengthen the development and production of second-generation biofuels.” José Manuel Martínez - Director of Technology, Projects, and Services at Moeve

Alberto Santana, President of the Port of Huelva, declared that "as an energy and industrial cluster, the Port of Huelva is committed to leading the energy transition and port decarbonization in the region, as outlined in our Strategic Plan. To achieve this goal, we support projects focused on sustainable energy production by companies in the port community, such as the joint initiative launched today by Moeve and Exolum. This project, backed by a significant investment, will help modernize infrastructure, improve port operations, and create jobs.”

For Exolum, a leader in liquid fuel logistics in Spain, this is an important step in the strategy of adapting the infrastructure to support the energy transition in Spain. Jorge Guillén, Director of Exolum Spain and the Aviation Business Unit, said, "We’re pleased to be working with Moeve to provide the necessary infrastructure to decongest the Port of Huelva and accommodate new green traffic. Our facility, together with the investments in Muelle Sur and Poliducto, puts us in a strong position to offer efficient solutions for bulk logistics flows in Huelva. This site has tremendous potential as a green hub, and we’re committed to leading the transformation to sustainability.”

Meanwhile, Cristóbal Sánchez, Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining of the Junta de Andalucía, emphasized that "the projects presented today are in line with the industrial policy of the Junta de Andalucía, which focuses on supporting initiatives that help Andalucian industry move forward in its decarbonization and energy transition efforts." Sánchez highlighted the availability of industrial networks and streamlining tools, such as the Project Accelerator Unit (UAP), which is accelerating the approval process for the biofuel loading facilities being developed by Moeve and Exolum in the Port of Huelva, as well as other strategic projects for the region, including Moeve's new biofuel plant in Palos.

A year ago, the foundation stone was laid for the 2G biofuels plant in Huelva, which will play a key role in the projects presented today. This new plant represents an investment of over 1 billion euros and will increase Moeve's biofuel and bio-oil production capacity to 1.6 million tons per year. The plant is expected to be operational in 2026, solidifying Moeve and its partners' position as leaders in the transition to sustainable energy.
