About
ChemCologne is the chemical cluster of the greater Cologne area in the Rhineland and it sets out to develop the region's attractiveness and competitiveness for the chemical industry and to make it better known among domestic and foreign investors as a potential location for chemical production.
ChemCologne is supported by the chemical companies in the region in cooperation with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the employers' association Chemie Rheinland, the City of Cologne as well as the other towns and districts in the region, the chambers of commerce and industry, the Cologne regional government and the universities as well as the Trade Union for Mining, Chemicals and Energy, and NRW.INVEST.
The various partners and members of the chemical industry, public facilities and research and development departments together provide a wide range of competencies. Regular meetings of ChemCologne offer its members the opportunity to network, swap ideas and benefit from synergies.
The available areas for new development and investment are centrally located in Europe’s biggest conurbation and offer additional synergies through their proximity to other chemical companies, suppliers, and customers.
Core Sectors / Industries
In the ChemCologne area there are about 230 chemicals companies of all sizes. They produce for a large number of branches, for example: petrochemistry, Inorganic and organic basic chemistry, polymers incl. rubber, fibers, fine chemistry, agricultural chemistry and pharmaceuticals.
The chemical industry in the ChemCologne region is characterized by a large number of branches, covering nearly the whole range of chemistry, thus representing the "classic" value-creation chain. The forward-looking developments in the fields of biotechnology (focus on red and white biotechnology) and new materials (including nanotechnology) are a major benefit to the region.
