The HYCO plant of Carburos Metálicos in Tarragona reaches 700 days of uninterrupted operation
The hydrogen and carbon dioxide production plant (HYCO) of Carburos Metálicos in Tarragona reached 700 days on stream at the end of July, that is, without interruptions in the supply of hydrogen by pipe to its main customer, Repsol. This record, which the plant continues to increase today, exceeds the previous 450 days and strengthens not only the position of the HYCO plant in Tarragona as one of the most important worldwide within the Air Products group, but also as a center reference of high efficiency and reliability.
This record of continuous operation means that the plant has been operating hydrogen supplied 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without stopping, thus meeting the requirements of the Repsol facilities in Tarragona that need continuous hydrogen in the form of gas produced by Carburos Metálicos. The relevance of this fact is that the volume consumed by the customer is so high that it does not allow storage and its supply is critical for the operation of its activity.
This new milestone of the HYCO plant in Tarragona "is a good example of the quality of the Metal Carburos service to its customers and of the company's commitment to excellence, in line with the values that guide our activity. our HYCO plant reaches the highest production levels without interruption in the sector ", explained Francesco Maione, General Manager of Carburos Metálicos, the company is known for offering high efficiency in its service plants in Spain, while at the same time excellent customer service, the best experts, maximum security, the greatest coverage and proximity as values.
About the HYCO plant in Tarragona
The production facilities for hydrogen gas from Carburos Metálicos, located in La Pobla de Mafumet (Tarragona), were inaugurated in May 2002 after an investment of 58 million euros. Carburos Metálicos serves a part of the production to other gas phase customers through hydrogen platforms by road, mainly for the industrial and food sector.
