Repsol to invest 150 million euros in the chemical sector of its Tarragona complex
Repsol has announced that it will invest a total of 150 million euros in maintenance work and investments in safety and the environment at its Tarragona complex. These works will form part of the planned shutdown in the chemical area of the complex, which will begin on 15 January and will last 52 days.
According to Repsol in a statement, of the 150 million euros, 50 million will be allocated to maintenance work, while the other 100 million will be invested in safety, the environment, energy efficiency and improving competitiveness. This investment will enable a new operating cycle in the industrial complex, which will focus on reducing CO2 emissions, circularity and digitalisation.
The aim of these works is to improve the competitiveness and energy efficiency of the facilities at the Tarragona complex. A total of 675 pieces of equipment will be inspected and projects will be carried out that will prevent the emission of 104,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. In addition, it is expected that an average of 1,300 people will be working daily during the shutdown, with peak times of 2,300.
Javier Sancho, director of the Tarragona industrial complex, has highlighted "Repsol's clear commitment to maintaining the industrial complex as an industrial, technological, sustainable and competitive benchmark that will allow it to continue generating social and economic value for the region." These investments and maintenance works demonstrate Repsol's commitment to Tarragona and its desire to continue improving and transforming the complex.
Maintenance shutdowns such as this are scheduled and repeated periodically to ensure the review, maintenance and improvement of the complex's units.
