Amsterdam/ Magdeburg - The German energy service provider GETEC heat & power AG will acquire the Emmtec Industry & Business Park in Emmen via its subsidiary GETEC Infra NL B.V. in the Netherlands from Energy company Nuon. GETEC guarantees employment for Emmtec’s circa 200 employees. All existing cooperation and commercial arrangements with third parties at the industry park will continue.

Emmtec Service B.V. owns and operates the Emmtec Industry & Business Park in Emmen. With 115 hectares, this industry park is the second biggest of its kind in the Netherlands, as well as being one of the biggest employers of the region, employing over 1300 people for different companies. The industry park has a special focus on (bio) polymers and fibres, a field in which it has the top position in Europe. The circa 200 employees of Emmtec will be transferred to the new owner.
The acquisition is still subject to certain conditions being met, including antitrust approval, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Both parties have agreed not to disclose details of the purchase price.
“Nuon continuously seeks opportunities to optimise its portfolio and to adapt to new challenges in the energy market. The management of industry parks and the services Nuon supplies to industrial customers no longer fits into the strategic objectives of the company”, explains Peter Smink, CEO of Nuon. “We are happy that we found a very experienced and trustworthy party that is willing to invest further in this Industry Park. This does mean however that we must part with more than 200 of our colleagues. Fortunately all these people will be in good hands with GETEC. I want to thank all of them for their hard work and loyalty.”
“In the course of the implementation of the GETEC GROUP internationalization strategy the acquisition of Emmtec Industry & Business Park is a significant milestone” says Dr. Karl Gerhold, the managing shareholder of GETEC GROUP. “The acquisition of the industry park in Emmen represents an important step in GETEC heat & power AG’s corporate strategy”, explains Volker Schulz, CEO of GETEC heat & power AG. “It will strengthen our operations in the European market and will significantly enhance our competencies for the chemical industry.”
The acquisition of the EMMTEC Industry & Business Park is an important project which GETEC heat & power AG is implementing as part of its GETEC Infra strategy. GETEC has been focusing on this strategy to expand and diversify the company’s services. GETEC will provide all relevant services within the industrial park and as such, will expand their business lines and further enhance their competencies for the industry.
According to Volker Schulz: “The very heart of the industrial park is the highly efficient Combined Cycle Power Plant that produces 60 MW of electrical power and around 200 tonnes of steam per hour. By acquiring the energy supply plant within the industrial park, we are remaining true to our core business whilst the acquisition of all the remaining infrastructure and services represents a step forward. We are anticipating a huge growth potential for GETEC heat & power AG in this area, and achieve a turnover increase for GETEC of some 60 million euros per year.”
