The last member meeting was hosted by Baltic Chemical Park in Estonia on 15 and 16 May 2019. The theme of the Mini-Symposium was: ‘Oil shale and the impact on the chemical sector’. Eric Hudson from Nexant explained what Shale Gas is, what is happening in the US and what the difference is in Europe. Indrek Aarna from the Viru Keemia Group (VKG) gave a presentation on the Oil Shale industry in Estonia which started already in 1916 and has guaranteed the country's energy independence.

The meeting was followed by an exciting trip to the underground Estonian Mining Museum consisting of former mining gears with a total length of 1 kilometer. During the guided tour, the ECSPP members became miners as they put on helmets and descended to mining gears up to 8 m underground.

After a delicious miner’s lunch in the underground miner canteen daily miner's work was experienced on a guided tour in moist and dusky conditions, including travel on a real underground train for miners.

The next meeting will be held on 16 & 17 October in the UK, hosted by PX Group.
