Redexis Invests €5.5 Million in Upgrading its 20 GWh Biomethane Facility at Almazán, Spain
Redexis Renovables has initiated a €5.5 million modernization project at its Almazán biomethane production facility. This investment aims to optimize waste treatment processes and maximize biogas yield. The upgraded facility is projected to generate approximately 20 GWh of biomethane annually, sufficient to supply power to around 3,170 households.
The facility is undergoing final phase upgrades and is scheduled to commence biomethane injection into the local gas grid by December 2024. This initiative underscores Redexis’ commitment to sustainable energy production and decarbonization efforts through the utilization of agricultural waste as a renewable feedstock.
Over the past decade, Redexis has contributed approximately €60 million to the development of gas infrastructure in Castilla y León, resulting in a network spanning over 1,200 kilometers and serving 190,000 residents. The Almazán project aligns with the company's broader strategy of stimulating rural economic growth.
By recovering methane from agricultural residues, Redexis' biomethane production initiative contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions reduction and waste management optimization. The company is also actively exploring biogas advancements and the potential for higher ethanol blends in automotive fuels to further promote environmental sustainability.
