BASF increases capacity for biodegradable plastic Ecoflex®
The new plant will have a total capacity of 6,000 metric tons a year, and complements the 8,000 metric ton plant in Ludwigshafen. Ecoflex® is a specialty plastic, which belongs to BASF’s Styrene Plastics operating division.
GE opens new Lexan plant in Cartagena
General Electric opened its new Lexan resin plant in Cartagena, Murcia. It is the third phase of the complex of GE Advanced Materials. The plant investment is 600 million euros. The total investment of GE in the complex of Cartagena is 1.7 billion euros.
BASF increases production for acrylic acid and superabsorbent polymers (SAP) in Antwerp and butyl acrylate in Ludwigshafen, Germany
BASF will increase capacity of SAP to 175,000 tonne/year from 115,000 tonne/year. Capacity for the precursor acrylic acid will be extended as a result and a second plant with a capacity of 160,000 tonne/year is to be built to support the existing 160,000 tonne/year acrylic acid plant.

Industrial projects launched at Mongstad and Tjeldbergodden (vedlegg)
Plans are being presented by Statoil today, 1 July, to build power stations at two of its Norwegian facilities and to expand methanol production at one of these sites. The proposals cover a co-generation plant at the Mongstad refinery near Bergen, and a gas-fired unit at Tjeldbergodden in mid-Norway with an associated increase in methanol capacity.
