Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is expanding its production capacity at its Dormagen site for its ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVM) line by 30% to meet rising demand in the wire and cable industry. The new capacities will be available from the second half of 2012. LANXESS also sees growth potential for its EVM line in China, where Levapren's resistance to heat, oil, and UV makes it a good choice for the cable industry. The Technical Rubber Products business unit, which includes the EVM line, is part of LANXESS' Performance Polymers segment.

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is to expand annual production capacity at its Dormagen site for its ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVM) line sold under the product brands Levapren and Levamelt by 30 percent to 15,000 metric tons.

The new capacities are due to be available from the second half of 2012.

“With this investment we are responding to rising demand in the wire and cable industry, which manufactures flame-retardant halogen-free sheathing out of Levapren,” says Jürgen Gunther, head of the Specialties business line in the Technical Rubber Products (TRP) business unit.

LANXESS sees further growth potential for its EVM line in China. “Levapren's resistance to heat, oil and UV makes it a good choice to meet the stringent performance and compliance needs of today’s cable industry in China,” says Sweeney Sun, Marketing Manager for Business Unit Technical Rubber Products for Asia Pacific. “Thanks to its excellent flame resistant property, this material offers designers the ability to produce flame retardant and non corrosive (FRNC) wire & cable”

The Technical Rubber Products business unit is part of LANXESS’ Performance Polymers segment, which recorded sales of EUR 2,388 million in fiscal 2009.
