AMG Lithium celebrates a groundbreaking ceremony for a production plant for lithium hydroxide at Bitterfeld Wolfen, Germany
MG Lithium has started construction with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park, for the first European lithium refinery, and commissioning for the first module of the battery grade lithium hydroxide upgrader will commence in the third quarter of 2023.
The aim is to supply the European battery industry with this key raw material reliably and with short delivery routes.
The initial annual production capacity of module 1 is 20,000 MT Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate. Thanks to its modular design, we can easily expand production by additional modules up to 100,000 MT annually based on market development.
Lithium hydroxide battery-grade is used to produce cathode materials that are installed in cells for lithium-ion batteries. The battery grade quality produced in this plant is characterized by an extremely low content of impurities - an essential requirement for use in battery cells.
The availability of battery materials is the central driver for the sustainable success of the mega trends electromobility and stationary energy storage. Therefore, Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH is very pleased about the settlement of AMG Lithium GmbH with Germany's first lithium refinery.
