• The first of the site's three production units will be operational before the end of 2023, with ramp-up scheduled for completion by the end of 2024.

Paris - ACC is contributing to the fight against global warming by positioning itself as a key player in the battery industry to equip high-performance, low-carbon electric vehicles that are accessible to the greatest number of people.

Founded in 2020, ACC (Automotive Cells Company) is a fast-growing high-tech company, with its first Gigafactory inaugurated two and a half years after the company was founded. Operating in the world of battery technology for electric vehicles, ACC is a joint venture between Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies, through its subsidiary Saft, behind of the technology used by ACC. This unique initiative is supported by France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union.

With an R&D center already operational since 2020 in Bruges, near Bordeaux, and a state-of-the-art pilot plant in Nersac, in the New Aquitaine region, ACC is today inaugurating its first Gigafactory in Billy-Berclau/Douvrin in the Hauts-de-France region, bringing the automotive industry into the electrification era.

This first Gigafactory, a flagship on a European scale, includes over 60,000 m2 of workshops, with an initial production line with a capacity of more than 13 GWh, rising to 40 GWh by 2030. ACC's development goes hand in hand with the development of a local, skilled workforce that will contribute to the growth of the Hauts-de-France region, with the creation of around 2,000 direct jobs by 2030.

Benefiting from the latest safety and environmental management standards, the site will have an industrial water consumption 5 to 10 times lower than that of a standard car manufacturing plant and will recycle 90% of its waste. The site has been classified SEVESO, a European regulation designed to maintain a high level of prevention and guarantee the highest standards and control in terms of safety.

In line with its values, ACC is committed to sourcing the strategic materials that make up its batteries (cobalt, lithium, copper, and nickel) from suppliers who are exemplary in terms of respect for the environment and human rights, and to actively contributing to the development of the batteries’ recycling industry.

The ACC project in Billy-Berclau/Douvrin has received support from the French government, the Hauts-de-France and Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regions, the Artois-Flandres Industrial Park, and the towns of Béthune-Bruay and Lens-Liévin.

With the implementation of two other gigafactories in Kaiserslautern (Germany) in 2025 and Termoli (Italy) in 2026, ACC's industrial capacity will reach 120 GWh at full capacity by 2030.
